The Autism Nutrition Library

This is a useful resource from The Autism Dietitian with research and practical guidance supporting symptoms beyond autism, such as ADHD, Leaky Gut Syndrome, PANS/PANDAS, and their relation to nutrition.

Symptoms like hyperactivity, brain fog, constipation, diarrhea, food reactions, and picky eating are common. Here you can explore various nutrition approaches for each.

Nutrition: The missing puzzle piece

Brittyn Coleman talks through the role of nutrition in supporting ASD symptoms.

Nutrition can have a significant impact on individuals on the spectrum ranging from cognition and focus to behaviour and mood.

However, nutrition is often challenging to navigate especially with selective eating, food sensitivity and intolerance, nutrient deficiencies, gastrointestinal issues.

Nutrition connection

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is an overarching term for a group of complex neurodevelopmental disorders of the brain affecting cognitive development, verbal and nonverbal communication, social interaction, and repetitive behaviour.

“ These behaviours are usually supported by therapies such as Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech Pathology, Physical Therapy, Behavioural Therapy, Social Groups, and many others. They are completely vital to supporting spectrum symptoms, but amidst these, the root cause can often be worth investigating too. Many times, the root cause of a behaviour is completely unknown, possibly stemming from somewhere deep inside the brain. Other times, the root cause can be quite simple ”

Nutrition Library

The Autism Nutrition Library is a great resource that can serve as a parent hub for all things autism symptoms & nutrition.

This resource includes a parent community forum, ability to ask questions, plus a wealth of information on a whole range of symptom and nutrition related topics plus notes backed by research including journal citations for you to feel confident implementing dietary approaches at home.

There is a membership fee to join the Autism Nutrition Library resource of $14.99 per month, with an opt out at any time.

It could be a good place to dip into in order to gain a better understanding of the role of nutritional.

Remote courses

Brittyn Coleman, registered dietitian specialising in spectrum support, uses biomedical nutrition and functional medicine for children with ASD, ADHD/ADD, and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Her aim is to educate parents on how to take the guesswork out of special diets, supplement recommendations, and lifestyle changes to help their children live their best lives and be their best selves. Her approach is focused on addressing the root cause, not just treating the symptoms, using biomedical labs to make recommendations based on results, not suspicions.

Along with the Nutrition Library, this is not a free resource. It is included here purely as another example of how parents can educate themselves if they wish.
